Cadbury Gorilla Ad Analysis Essay Example
Cadbury Gorilla Ad Analysis Paper Anuj Kwatra ââ¬â U110009 Hitesh Agarwal ââ¬â U110024 History of the Ad Gorilla Ad is a British advertising campaign launched by Cadbury Schweppes in 2007 to promote Cadbury Dairy Milk-brand chocolate. It was a 90-second television and cinema advertisement, which formed the centre piece of their new ad campaign. It was created and directed by Juan Cabral and starred actor Garon Michael. The campaign itself comprised appearances on billboards, print newspapers and magazines, television and cinema spots, event sponsorships and an internet presence. The entire campaign was handled by the advertising agency Fallon London. Their proposal was to step away from ââ¬Å"pushâ⬠marketing of the product through traditional advertising means, and instead create a ââ¬Å"pullâ⬠for the product by creating entertainment pieces which would appeal to a broader range of consumers The television premiere of the advertisement was on Friday 31 August 2007, during the finale of the eighth series of the United Kingdom reality television show Big Brother. The Gorilla commercial scored by generating high noticeability ratings wherever it was screened on television and this generated huge downloads on the web. Prior to the release of the Gorilla movie Cadbury was having a poor season. Sales were down because of certain PR and other issues that affected the quality of the product, which resulted in the brand dropping in top-of-mind awareness and sales. Analysis of Ad based on Emotional Preferences Parameters 1. Seeing, Hearing and Sensing The ad has a backdrop of Purple colour with golden line. This matched with the packaging colouring scheme of the Cadbury Dairy Milk (CDM) Chocolates. Also it has a lot of musical instruments in the ad. It shows a studio. So whenever a visual sees a set of drum or other musical instruments, it would remind him of this ad, and would intern reflect the joy that CDM could provide. The music used in the ad is to attract the auditory people. It is very slow, rhythmic and measured to grad their attention. The sound of drums is used to create the recall of the ad for them. The ad seemed to target majoring of the people belonging to this emotional preference as the idea of using the product metaphor that Chocolate is about joy and pleasureâ⬠. It starts with a soothing sound followed by close up on the gorilla. It is feeling something calming and fulfilling. Also the lyrics of the song (I can feel in the air tonight, oh lord. ) reflects feelings. Thus anytime a feeling of joy is there in an individual it would create a recall for the product. 2. People, Places, Activities, Knowledge and Things This ad reflects that when a gorilla can have an experience of delight then anyone who wishes to have to experience ecstasy can consume CDM. Thus this ad doesnââ¬â¢t focus much on ââ¬Å"peopleâ⬠preference of an individual. As chocolate is an impulse purchase and location doesnââ¬â¢t play a role in the buying decision, place preference is not catered. The gorilla is shown to be banging the drums with a lot of energy. This is done to target the activity oriented people. They are generally high on energy and look for things that are enjoyable. The ad also by showing the CDM product only at the end creates an interest level which targets people looking for an intellectual activity. As chocolate is an impulse purchase, not much of involvement is required from the customer. So knowledge plays an insignificant role in purchase. Hence knowledge preference is not addressed in the ad. The gorilla in the ad seems to have a deep association with drums. This addresses to the people with things filter. It shows to them the CDM can provide them the same kind of fulfilment that they get from the things they like. 3. Away from and Towards. The ad clearly shows the amount of pleasure gorilla gets from CDM. Thus it directly addresses to the people belonging to towards preference as they have a tendency to seek pleasure in whatever they buy. The people belonging to the away preference are quite procedural. However the ad doesnââ¬â¢t show any reference to procedural or pattern based purchase. Thus this preference is not addressed. 4. Internal and External. The chocolate consumption is more about self satisfaction. Hence external preference is not addressed. On the other hand, the gorilla is shown to be enjoying his own company. This addresses to the people with internal preference as it shows to them the kind of satisfaction they can get for themselves from CDM. 5. Options and Procedures Gorilla is shown to be the new face of CDM. This is something very new and innovative. Moreover, the gorilla is initially just sitting there almost in a trance when it starts playing the drums almost spontaneously. This would address to people with options preference who by nature are spontaneous and look for new things. The people with procedure preference tend to follow a consistent routine or buying procedure. The ad doesnââ¬â¢t show any such routine and thus doesnââ¬â¢t address such people. 6. Big Picture and Details The ad is very abstract in a way that direct product consumption is nowhere shown. Infact the product is shown only in the end. Thus it only projects the big picture in a metaphorical sense that CDM consumption can bring extreme pleasure. This addresses to the people with big picture filter. However not much detail is shown in the ad, thus people with detail filter are not addressed. 7. Active and Passive The ad initially shows that the gorilla is relaxed and is waiting for something to happen. This part grasps the attention of the people having passive filter. Then suddenly he gets stimulated and starts drumming. Moreover, he is bouncing with energy while drumming. This part targets people with active filter. 8. Response to change The ad is a totally new concept with a gorilla as its lead. Surprisingly no words used in it to promote the product. Moreover, the product is nowhere shown directly in the ad. It is very different from any other ad. Thus the ad is a treat for people with difference filter while ignores people with sameness filter. The ad shows gradual change in the mood of the gorilla. Initially it is calm and relaxed. Then it enjoys the feeling of pleasure and moves on to feel the energy. This occasional change of feelings at a normal pace adheres to people with progress filter. 9. Past, Present and Future. The ad uses a song (In the air tonight, by Phil Collins) that was composed in 1981. It was a big hit then. Thus people with past filter can relate to this song and will thus relate to CDM. The gorilla shown in the ad is both active and spontaneous. He seems to be enjoying the moment. These traits are in sync with people having present filter. The ad concept is very imaginative as it shows a gorilla enjoying music and playing drums. Moreover it generates a sense of anticipation in the viewerââ¬â¢s mind as to what would be coming next. These characteristics of the ad address to the people with future filter.

9 Ways To Avoid Being The Office Jerk
9 Ways To Avoid Being The Office Jerk We all have crazy coworkers- and thatââ¬â¢s not even counting the guys going AWOL on the printer in an abandoned field. But you donââ¬â¢t have to be the office psycho to make an enemy of yourself at work. Here are nine things not to do on the job- or really ever.1. Donââ¬â¢t lieEven if itââ¬â¢s a little white lie with good intentions, it can easily get out of hand. Getting caught up in a lie, however, will only make it harder for your coworkers to trust youâ⬠¦ and for you to respect yourself.2. Donââ¬â¢t gossipButâ⬠¦ work is dull, and that secret is just so juicy Still,à hold on to your schadenfreude and keep quiet about your coworkersââ¬â¢ misery. You wonââ¬â¢t hurt anybodyââ¬â¢s feelings, and no one will think youââ¬â¢re a spiteful grump.3. Donââ¬â¢tà be a downerEverybody hates their job a little- at least once in a while. But donââ¬â¢t be the one whoââ¬â¢s constantly complaining. Itââ¬â¢s a bummer and will bring the whole group do wn, plus it will make you look like a total downer. Remember how replaceable you are!4. Donââ¬â¢t ExplodeNo, seriously. We all want to go AWOL on the printer. Or occasionally even our boss. Before you pick up that stapler to hurl it at your coworker, remember: it might make you feel better, but itââ¬â¢s really just an easy way to get fired. Once you become the office crazy person, thereââ¬â¢s no coming back.5. Donââ¬â¢tà hog all the creditEven if you feel you did the lionââ¬â¢s share, taking credit for someone elseââ¬â¢s work or ideas is just a jerk move, plain and simple. Keep it classy, and focus on what you can accomplish.6. Donââ¬â¢t bragPlaying it cool is the strongest possible move when youââ¬â¢ve done something excellent. Give the impression that youââ¬â¢re that good all the time, rather than crowing about every small success.7. Donââ¬â¢tà backstabBe sensitive to the climate you work in, and the hierarchy. Donââ¬â¢t go over anybodyââ¬â¢ s head or talk about anyone behind their back. (And just hope your coworkers do you the same courtesy.)8. Donââ¬â¢tà eat gross stuffNo, really. That leftover flounder your boyfriend made you is just going to stink up the microwave, the kitchenette, your cubicle, and the entire office. Donââ¬â¢t be the one who brings in smelly leftovers and makes everybody nauseous. If you wouldnââ¬â¢t eat it on an airplane, donââ¬â¢t bring it into work.9. Donââ¬â¢t burn bridgesEven if you do have to peace out, resist the urge to do it in dramatic fashion. Youââ¬â¢re invariably hurting your coworkers more than your boss, and you never know when you might need the connections you have made. These sound like outrageous behaviors, but itââ¬â¢s quite easy to be driven to them gradually. So check your ego, stay calm, and make sure to keep your head above the fray.

Will Ethical Abuses Cripple Republicans in the 2006 Mid-Term Elections Essay
Will Ethical Abuses Cripple Republicans in the 2006 Mid-Term Elections - Essay Example Democrats like to point out that the Republican scandals, such as the one involving Rep. Randy Cunningham, have tended to involve defense contractors. Republicans like to point out that Democrat scandals, like the one involving Rep. Alan Mollohan, have tended to involve special "earmarks" for local districts. This is irrelevant. Whether the corruption is benefiting Group A or Group B does not somehow de-legitimize the underlying ethical breaches. A breach of trust is a violation. Congress, in its current state, seems overdue for a makeover. That such powerful figures, such as Rep. Tom Delay, have been able to abuse positions of public trust is intolerable. It is perhaps an indicator that it is time for a change. That said, how do we accept, at face value, the Democrats' assertion that the Republicans have created a "culture of corruption" when they themselves are not without skeletons in their own closet Should we choose the lesser of two evils Should we keep score and vote for the party least likely to abuse its power I believe the FBI should set up a Congressional Ethics task force. People that abuse their power should be indicted and imprisoned. What Congress does is too important for a hypocritical partisanship. This essay topic is timely. As I write these words, the Prime Minister of Lebanon, Mr.

Heathrow Terminal-5
Heathrow Terminal-5 Heathrow Terminal-5 Case Study Executive Summary: Heathrow airport has been in operation since 1946 and is the UKs largest airport and the worlds busiest international airport, carrying over 60 million passengers and 1.3 million tons of cargo each year. Terminal 5 when constructed will be able to handle 30 million passengers per year, taking Heathrows total number of passengers to around 90 million. Heathrow Terminal 5 is the most multifaceted construction projects in Europe with good procurement and Supply Chain Management strategies in place. It is a multidisciplinary project consisting of civil, mechanical, electrical systems, communications and technology contractors over the entire phase of the project. The project is aimed at making Heathrow maintain its competitive position within Europe, retain its passenger capacity and also increase it by 30% over the next 10 years; this project when carried out will make Heathrow one the worlds busiest airport and a major source of income for the UK economy. It is estimated that the project will cost à £4.2B and have a payback period of 8 years. Since construction projects are prone to risks related to Environmental, legal and Supply Chain issues, the main aim is to maintain a synergistic relationship amongst all the stakeholders of the project with an effective communication strategy in place and to hire external consultants having expertise related to environmental (material risk, waste management, air quality, dust, noise and others) and legal aspects of the project. This helps in a smooth flow of the project coping with Environmental and legal standards set by the UK (Europe). This also favours in preserving the interests of local communities during the construction of this Terminal (Execution Phase). Some of the main multifarious challenges which are involved in the project phases would be: * Exhaustive Planning activities * Earthworks (Archaeology) * State of the Art design of the infrastructure (Buildings) * Twin river diversion * Rail and Road infrastructure projects. The main elements under T5 project includes construction of the Main Terminal building, two Satellite Terminals, Aircraft stands, an Air Traffic Control Tower, connections to Public Transport, Road works, Rails and Tunnels. The success of this project also depends on the lessons learnt from the following two stages: * Lessons learnt prior to this project from other major construction projects * Lessons learnt during the execution (construction) stage of the project. Therefore the project should be focussed on the first point than the second one and strive towards having minimal lessons learnt during the execution stage of the project. The main aim is to complete this project on time, within budget and with exceeding expectations of the quality from the customer. 1. Introduction: BAA is the worlds leading International airport group, responsible for managing the multifaceted Airport environment including safety and security, operation of air bridges, runways, environmental issues, shops and commercial facilities, airport systems which includes IT, information/ help desks and others. It owns, develop and manage 9 International Airports in total including Budapest (Hungary) and Naples (Italy). A systematic reduction approach is being used for identifying the occurrence and/or exposure to a risk.On the above approach the Risk Mitigation has been plotted for Heathrow terminal-5, please find it in the Appendix 1234 Risk Matrix: The purpose of risk matrix is to determine the level of risk (High, Medium and Low), resulting provides information to both Stakeholders/Organization to concentrate and mitigate the identified risk. The rating for the below is derived on the occurrence of ââ¬Å"probability and impactâ⬠. A contingency plan is also derived to mitigate the risk, below is the proposed Probability-Impact matrix for Heathrow Terminal-5: IMPACT RATING 4,5 3 1,2 HIGH MEDIUM LOW 4,5 HIGH Schedule, Communication Plan PROBABILITY 3 MEDIUM Economic Procurement Environmental Resources Organizational Issues, Airport Security 1,2 LOW Contractual Legal Issues, Technology, Corporate Governance Design Political, Cultural, Adverse Publicity 7 Work breakdown Structure As per PMBOK 3rd Edition work breakdown structure is defined as A deliverable-oriented hierarchical decomposition of the work to be executed by the project team to accomplish the project objectives and create the required deliverables. The Purpose of Work breakdown structure in Heathrow Terminal-5, firstly it helps the project manager accurately in defining and organise the scope of the Project. This can be obtained by following the traditional method ââ¬Å"Hierarchical tree structureâ⬠. At each level of tree structure breaks the Project deliverables and objectives to more specific and measurable packages/work packages. Secondly it helps in assigning roles and responsibilities, resource allocation to the Project. Also helps in monitoring and controlling the project throughout the Life Cycle, it helps in estimating the cost, schedule and risk involved in the project for each work packages. Finally, make sure that the deliverables are specific has per the stakeholders and helps in identifying whether the deliverables are repetitive and overlapping. Please find the proposed work breakdown structure of Heathrow Terminal-5 which mainly focuses on Execution phase with a budget of à £3120 million and à £300 millio n Kept apart for the contingency which may occur during the Execution Phase, please find the Work Breakdown structure in the Appendix 1.23 7.1 Gantt chart: The founder of Gantt chart ââ¬Å"Henry Lawrence Ganttâ⬠used this tool to show the actual schedule and progress of the project was invented on 1920s and used on large projects from 1931. Gantt chart key feature is that it focuses on Systematic approach rather than algorithm approach, Gantt chart is most effective form of graphical representation hence for Heathrow Trminal-5 such an tool helps you out in sorting your. Gantt charts provide quick and easily understood means for describing the project activities, while network activities can also be determined like Critical Path and PERT. The activities/task may be listed in order of entry of Start date, Finish date, duration and Slack and appropriate to their graphical bars we can find the Start, Finish, duration and slack as well. Gantt chart are also used as project status report, it helps in the project manager in gathering the information have the deliverables met as per the baseline plan. The baseline plan includes both sched ule and resources, whether project is schedule overrun, resource allocation and budget status. The purpose of Gantt chart for Heathrow Terminal-5 is to provide a visibility of estimated schedule and project status for the assigned deliverables/tasks throughout the project life cycle. Also find the derived Gantt chart for execution phase by the team in the appendix 1.24, which includes Critical path method and Milestones. Critical Path Method: Critical path can be defined as the chain of events whose flat is equal up to zero, those events which occur in this path are critical to the successful achievement of the project within its earliest possible time. The activities lying on the critical path must to be given Priority by the management and supply resources if required. Heathrow Terminal-5-Landside civil- Site preparation-Pipelines for heat and power- Structure-Shops and commercial facilities- Safety and security-Testing of runways and building-Landscaping Mile stones: As per Dobie (2007), project must be divided into measurable a package, that is actions which will contribute to the achievement of objectives. The project phase as combined related project activities to achieve a logical outcome like major deliverables; these deliverables form the milestone throughout the lifecycle. Milestones are essential tools frequently used by project manager to control the progress of the project and manage the scope of the project. Also compare the actual costs and progress experienced with the costs and progress planned. The identified four major Milestones for Heathrow terminal-5 during the scheduling of execution phase ÃË Milestone 1: Completion of landside civil process. ÃË Milestone 2: Completion of Terminal 5 building. ÃË Milestone 3: Completion of Airfield and runway. ÃË Milestone 4: Completion of Rail and Road Infrastructure and Testing and Land scrapping phase. The deliverables identified in the Gantt chart are for Execution phase as below: 1) Landslide civil process 2) Terminal-5 building 3) Airfield and Runway 4) Air traffic Control tower 5) Rail Infrastructure 6) Road Infrastructure 7) Testing and landscaping 8) Site and logistics The detailed descriptions of the deliverables are as follows: Task Deliverables Targets Controls Dependency Schedule (Days) Resources Authorities 1 Landside civil Site preparation, Pipelines for heat and power stations, Twin river diversion (Construction of two channels, Maundering flow pattern, Maintaining eco balance) Piles method, Water quality, Waste Management 377 Programme manager, Project Manager, Site Engineer, Consultants, Designers, Manager, Team leaders, Labourers Programme Manager 2 Terminal-5 Building a) Exteriors (Structure, Bus station, Taxi Stands, Drop Off, Multi story car park) b) Interiors (Shop and Commercial Facilities, Elevators and Escalators, Conveyor belt for Handling baggage, Safety and Security, Tracked transit system) c) Satellite building, Energy centre and hotels Waste management and use of advance technology 1 853 Programme manager, Project manager, Architects, Software developers, Manager, Team leaders, Labourers Programme Manager 3 Airfields and runway 60 aircraft stands, Runway and earthworks Air Quality, Noise reduction 1

Socrates Arguments Crito
The Platonic ââ¬ËDeath of Socrates Dialogues', are a quartet of important and influential conversations written by Plato, but told through the eyes of his mentor Socrates. Written in 386BC, they tell the story surrounding the Socrates being charged by the state for piety and corruption of the youth. They are conversations between Socrates, his friends, and his censors, the rulers of Athens. Socrates has found guilty of these crimes and after failing to convince the Athenian statesmen that he had been wrongfully accused, and sentenced to death. The third story from the quartet is ââ¬ËCrito' where Socrates chats with his wealthy friend Crito, who after bribing a guard, offers to help Socrates escape his sentence. Socrates refuses, and the dialogue throws up a few moral arguments where he explains his reasons to Crito, Socrates argues that it is necessary for the state to punish him as he has not acted within the laws that govern Athens. After all, he has faced the serious charge of worshipping false gods, and by passing these views on to his young followers, further charge with corrupting them. As he is a ighly respected citizen within Athens, he thinks that he should lead by example and take his punishment. After all, he knew the laws and more than likely and knew what punishment he would incur if caught. No one is above the law. The laws are set by the state in order for citizens to follow a code of behaviour. Failure to adhere to such laws could lead to destruction of the state and it is right that the government made and example of him. He thinks that if laws are broken, then the ruling class should have the powers to deal with the lawbreakers, otherwise what is the point having he laws, or indeed the state who police the laws in place. He also argued that he has been privileged to be part of the state of Athens and had received all the benefits that come with being a citizen of such an institution. Although the benefits are available to all Athenians, on the premise that you obey its laws. The state that had been so good to him over his 71 years of life, and the laws there provided him and his family with sanctuary. The state provided security for his parents to marry and to bring him up safely. The state also provided him with the ducation of which made him the man he was. He was using this education against the state by teaching youths to think differently about the gods that the Athenians worshipped. He uses the analogy that the relationship between he, or indeed anyone else and the state of Athens was like that of parent and child. Children should obey their parents, therefore citizens should obey the state. By escaping prison, this would not be obeying the state so he chooses to stay put. He argues that the state is in fact more important than parents or ancestors, because it is the state that enables its itizens to nurture. This argument is probably not very sound. To say that parents are similar to the state is not accurate. You are born to parents and are expected to comply with state procedure while living there. Occasionally within family life, there can be systematic physical abuse from parents which often goes unreported. Generally you do not get physically abused by the state, unless of course you are unlucky to live in somewhere that shy away from democracy. By being born into a family, rules are not set as stone, and as a child you are expected in a way not always to act to these rules. Usually there is more leniency within the family when it comes to rule breaking than if you break a state law. He also argues that anyone born into the state and benefiting from the laws of the state has a duty to not to do anything that may help destroy the state, and by escaping this would have a detrimental effect on the state and it laws. He argues that although he was born in Athens, there were no laws stopping him from leaving. Simply by choosing to live there all his live, he unwittingly enters an implied contract and must adhere to the laws of the state, otherwise face the punishment. He chose ot to live in Sparta or Crete, he chose to live in Athens, so must have satisfaction for the the state, therefore its laws. If he did not agree with the laws, then he would have to prove to the rulers of Athens that they were unjust. Although he tried to convince the the judges that his conviction was unjust, it is within the interests of the state for them to overlook his thoughts and label him a corrupter of the state. To avoid corrupting the state further, he chose to take his punishment of death by hemlock and not take up Crito's offer of help to escape as that would be doing something unjust, hile his sentence in his eyes was unjust. In other words, two wrongs do not make a right. It could be said that Socrates thinks being born into state and reaping the benefits of being a citizen. If this was the case, he could be expected to do anything the state asks him to do as he lives there, and is by living there he has a social contract bestowed on him. There are many moral instances where it is probable that he may not adhere to this tacit agreement, for example, doing wrong by his family. Socrates had the opportunity to except banishment from the state of Athens but chose not to. After all Athens was his home and although he is a respected figure within the state, he was unsure if he would be happy in another state. They would know of his conviction, which basically is a charge saying he did not adhere to state laws, and brandished a trouble maker. This could make things uncomfortable for him to settle down as he may not be accepted or respected in the manner that he had been in Athens. However, he decided to stand up for himself and try to convince the judges that his views are correct but fail, so accepts his punishment. Even although he thinks the sentence is njust he sees no advantage in escaping. His reputation would be in tatters and would be remembered as a coward who instead of taking his punishment, chose to run away and live a life of obscurity. Even although he thinks he is being victimised, eluding his punishment he would also be breaking the laws of the state and is still under social contract to obey these laws. By becoming political martyr, he is making a stand against the state while adhering to the laws of the state. Socrates believed his argument to the jury that convicted him was enough to prove the charges were unjust. However when convicted he did not plead to be spared the death sentence as this would have meant that he would have been acting unjust, by accepting that he had wronged. He argues that there would be no advantage escaping prison. He would be acting unjustly after being convicted unjustly. Those helping him escape would be endangering their lives in doing so. He had lived in Athens all his life, so the thought of living somewhere less civilised was not appealing. He would be seen by his many followers as a man not true to himself and would be deemed a coward. As a man of virtue, he accepted his fate by drinking the poison hemlock thus osthumously ensuring his family and friends would not be harmed and that his reputation as an honourable man was intact. Socrates puts forward the first instance of social contract theory known. Law makers since have used social contracts to curtail and nurture human behaviour, which many people find unjust. Although in some instances these contracts have been challenged successfully, a couple of examples being the abolition of slavery and women having the same rights as men. Whilst Socrates was unsuccessful in his challenge against he died a man who stood up for his morals and beliefs and possibly the worlds first political martyr.
